Introduction and overview

NexoVirt is a self-hosted control panel for managing multiple Proxmox VE nodes and clusters from one place. This page gives a short overview of what it is, how it fits together and what you get.

NexoVirt gives you a friendlier interface than raw Proxmox for everyday work: creating and reinstalling guests, watching live metrics, opening a console, managing networking and backups, and a clean, token-authenticated REST API to automate against. You can also hand your own customers a slim self-service portal that only shows the servers they own.

It runs on its own management server and talks to your Proxmox nodes over the Proxmox VE REST API plus a small on-node agent. The panel itself is never installed on the Proxmox nodes.

The Community Edition is free (self-hosted, every core feature, up to 2 Proxmox nodes) and needs no license key to install. See Editions & licensing.

NexoVirt is built for two groups. Homelab users and Proxmox admins get one dashboard for every node, a guided create wizard, cloud-init templates and an API that is easier to script than raw Proxmox. Hosting providers and MSPs get what it takes to sell servers on their own hardware: plans with expiry and traffic limits, IP pools, a customer portal with strict tenant isolation, branded email and, on the larger plans, white-label and a reseller tier. Both groups keep full access to the Proxmox web UI: NexoVirt never locks a node to the panel, and guests you create by hand stay untouched.

Management server

The NexoVirt panel itself, on its own Ubuntu or Debian VM. It stores connections, users, plans, metrics and inventory, and runs the background workers.

Proxmox nodes

Your existing Proxmox VE 7.0+ nodes or clusters. NexoVirt talks to them over the Proxmox API, nothing of yours is replaced.

Node agent

A small, constrained helper service installed on each node during onboarding. It is required: it handles image downloads, cloud-init snippets, NAT, VPN and node updates.

  • A panel-wide dashboard and guest list across every connected node, with no host picking.
  • A guided create wizard (with automatic placement), live consoles, reinstall, and a detailed per-guest page.
  • IP address management, NAT and port-forwarding, firewall management, SDN project networks and a one-click WireGuard VPN.
  • Proxmox Backup Server integration, cross-node migration, node evacuation, load balancing and assisted failover.
  • Plans with optional enforcement, a multi-tenant customer portal, and alerting by inbox, email and webhook.
  • A REST API with a consistent { success, data, error } envelope.
  • Self-updates from inside the panel, verified and rolled back automatically on failure.
